Job Title: Staff Pharmacist
Reports To: Pharmacy Manager
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This job has no customary supervisor responsibilities. May direct ancillary staff in the absence of the pharmacy manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Individual may not be on the government exclusion lists as determined by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and System for Award Management (SAM)
- While on duty, ensures that the pharmacy complies with all state and federal laws, regulations and rules.
- Remains active and in good standing with all licensing requirements of the governing state board of pharmacy.
- During the two (2) year reporting period, pharmacist completes the state-required continuing education units (CEU), which are approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE)
- Notifies the governing state board of pharmacy immediately with regard to the individual leaving employment [of this pharmacy]
- Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by performing the following duties:
- Reviews patient prescriptions by various means: oral, written, fax, or electronic, as well as, those transferred from other pharmacies
- Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients
- Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labelling pharmaceuticals
- Answers questions and provides counseling to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage of pharmaceuticals and any other information related to patient care, as deemed appropriate, using own professional judgment
- While on duty, maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of pharmacy and controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
- Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory
- Performs drug utilization reviews accurately for all patient records
- Assays medications to determine identity, purity, and strength
- Instructs interns and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy
- Other duties may be assigned

- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Current pharmacist license (Must be in good standing)
- Education and/or Experience- B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm D.
- Language Skills- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of pharmacy software, Internet, and word processing systems.
