Job summary

MedWiz Pharmacy in Kentucky is seeking a Staff Pharmacist to ensure safe, accurate dispensing in a fast-paced closed-door long-term care setting. You will provide clinical oversight, verify medications, and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize therapy.

Reporting to the Pharmacist-in-Charge, you will ensure compliance with DEA/state regs, supervise staff, and participate in quality improvement and compounding as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or RPH licensure.
  • Active pharmacist license in the applicable state.
  • 1+ year of pharmacist experience.
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify prescriptions for safety and dosing.
  • Collaborate with prescribers and nursing staff to resolve issues.
  • Oversee controlled substance management and documentation.
  • Ensure timely medication delivery and QA activities.
  • Prepare and oversee sterile and non-sterile compounded medications.
  • Maintain an organized, inspection-ready pharmacy.

Reporting to the Pharmacist-in-Charge, the Staff Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and effective dispensing of medications while providing clinical oversight, medication verification, and collaborative support to healthcare providers. This role combines clinical decision-making with operational excellence in a fast-paced closed-door pharmacy serving long-term care and assisted living facilities.

Clinical Practice
  • Perform clinical review and verification of prescriptions, evaluating appropriateness, interactions, allergies, dosing, renal adjustments, and therapeutic duplications.
  • Conduct final medication verification to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Collaborate with prescribers and nursing staff to resolve medication-related issues and optimize therapy.
  • Provide drug information and clinical guidance to pharmacy staff and healthcare providers.
  • Accept and process verbal medication orders in accordance with applicable regulations.
Operations & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, DEA, and Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Oversee controlled substance management and documentation.
  • Review prescription data entry for accuracy.
  • Support workflow to ensure timely medication delivery.
  • Perform quality assurance activities and utilize pharmacy automation technology.
Quality & Compounding
  • Prepare and oversee sterile and non-sterile compounded medications as needed.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain an organized, inspection-ready pharmacy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

This role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Candidates must possess the visual acuity necessary for accurate medication verification, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent communication with healthcare professionals, staff, and customers by telephone and in person is required.

Qualifications
Requirements
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or RPH
  • Active pharmacist license in the applicable state
  • 1+ years of pharmacist experience
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail
Preferred Experience
  • Long-term care pharmacy experience
  • Experience with FrameworkLTC, Pyxis MedBank, or similar pharmacy software
  • Experience with sterile or non-sterile compounding

Schedule
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Rotating weekends (or every third weekend, if applicable)
