Pennoni in Raleigh, NC, seeks an experienced Staff Engineer to support Land Development projects on a full-time, direct basis at our Raleigh office. The role offers opportunity to work on a variety of private and public site development projects across markets.

Responsibilities include leading development of land development plans, coordinating permits, performing zoning studies, and mentoring junior staff while maintaining budget and quality control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• 4+ years of professional engineering experience, land development preferred.
• P.E. license in NC preferred; experience with permitting is a plus.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and project management tools.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Job description

We are hiring for an experienced professional to join our team as a Staff Engineer and contribute to our Land Development projects on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Raleigh, NC. This person will have the opportunity to work on a variety of private and public site development projects across various markets!

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development of Land Development Plans; this includes the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specification, and engineering reports (from schematic design through construction).
• Coordinate permits through regulatory agencies for large scale, complex projects.
• Perform zoning interpretation and prepare feasibility studies, drawings, specifications, and reports.

• Contribute to stormwater management design: Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling, Erosion and Sediment Control (E&SC) planning, etc.
• Utilize advanced understanding of ordinances / regulations (local, state, & federal) as well as the relevant permitting process(es) to ensure compliance.
• Engage with regulatory agencies.
• Manage all aspects of project efforts and interface with clients.
• Nurture existing client relationships as well as developing new clients.
• Mentor junior-level staff.
• Provide quality control of staff design & reports.
• Prepare proposals and track project budgets for profitability.
• Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline (preferably Civil Engineering).
• 4+ years of professional experience working in Engineering, preferably with land development projects.

Please note that we are willing to consider a higher-level position for a candidate that qualifies with additional experience accordingly.

Preferred Qualifications:

• P.E. license in NC is preferred.
• Experience working on land development and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g.: CADD, project management software, etc.); exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bluebeam is a plus!
• Experience with stormwater management (SWM) design calculations, especially while utilizing H&H modeling tools.
• Proficiency on standard office software applications: Microsoft Office 365 (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, etc.
• Proven ability to look at the “Big Picture” as well the project goals in order to coordinate various design disciplines accordingly.
• Proven track record of demonstrating punctuality with consistent attendance.
• Proven ability to work in an energetic & challenging team environment as a collaborative Team Player, especially while maintaining the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proven ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, especially when working on a variety of projects while providing solutions to difficult issues.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
