Job description

UPMC McKeesport is hiring a full-time Staff Nurse to support the 4 M General Surgery Unit!

The 4M Unit emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, dedicated to making a difference in patients' lives.

This full-time position is part of the Weekend Program. Candidates will work 2 twelve-hour weekend shifts. Participants in the Weekend Program receive an additional 25% added to their base rate.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a key member of the care team, responsible for setting standards for care quality and managing patient activities through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration. This role involves leadership, partnership, supervision, and establishing collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The nurse also demonstrates a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff, supporting their development and providing detailed education to guide them through care episodes and transitions.
  • Developing productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and cultural sensitivity, while maintaining work-life balance and communicating safety concerns.
  • Using the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment, formulating daily goals, and considering holistic patient needs. Demonstrating critical thinking, effective communication, comprehensive documentation, and incorporating organizational goals to enhance safety, quality, and patient satisfaction.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and utilizing research and evidence-based practices to support clinical improvements.
  • Taking responsibility for professional development, engaging in shared governance, supporting change, and demonstrating flexibility and teamwork to improve patient care and the practice environment.
