Position Overview

The Stead Family Children’s Hospital Operating Room is seeking a Staff Nurse to apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. The role involves assessing patient healthcare preferences and expectations, and collaboratively coordinating the continuum of care across settings. The position follows a standard weekend option schedule of rotating, 12-hour shifts from 3pm on Friday to 7am on Monday.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Apply nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation.
  2. Assess patient healthcare preferences and expectations.
  3. Coordinate the continuum of care across various settings.
  4. Develop patient care plans based on individual conditions, age, and socioeconomic factors, prescribing appropriate interventions.
  5. Implement care plans, document interventions, and monitor patient and family responses.
  6. Collaborate with patients and families to incorporate their contributions into multidisciplinary care plans.
  7. Manage transfer and discharge planning throughout the care episode.
  8. Follow departmental policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe environment.
  9. Adhere to universal precautions.

The Department of Perioperative Services at Stead Family Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive surgical care. Our staff is committed to quality, compassionate service, and embodying UI Health Care’s ICARE core values. Position Details

Percent of Time: 60%

Schedule: Weekend option, Friday and Saturday, 1900-0730, no call required. Holiday work when falling on weekends, excluding additional holiday coverage.

Pay Range: $36,710 to commensurate, excluding inpatient differential of $6,000 annually. Some shifts may be eligible for additional shift differentials. Refer to the UI Health Care SNAHP manual for details. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000 based on experience.

Qualifications
Required
  • Associate’s Degree, Diploma, Baccalaureate, or higher in Nursing.
  • Minimum two years recent OR experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
  • Current Iowa nursing license.
Preferred
  • Baccalaureate or Master’s in Nursing.
  • One or more years of Operating Room experience.
  • Enrollment in a BSN program if not yet completed.
  • Knowledge of university policies is a plus.
