University Correctional Healthcare (UCHC) is seeking a Part Time Mental Health Staff Nurse (RN) for the Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the psychological and physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.

Work Arrangement: This position requires a full onsite work arrangement.

Physical Demands: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
Special Conditions: Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
