Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible and accountable for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The RN II provides care through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with other healthcare team members.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs ongoing assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, including nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
- Formulates goal-directed care plans when appropriate.
- Implements care thoroughly, skillfully, consistently, and continuously.
- Establishes priorities based on patient needs and available resources such as time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
- Identifies and meets patient/family learning needs.
- Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
- Provides and coordinates care for patients and patient populations.
- Develops effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Respects staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
- Delegates tasks appropriately and coordinates duties among healthcare team members.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by team members.
- Uses effective communication methods, following lines of authority as appropriate.
- Applies safety principles in all care activities.
- Responds efficiently in emergency situations, following protocols, staying calm, informing relevant personnel, and documenting events.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
- Participates in staff development activities.
- Maintains knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management.
- Engages in unit and department performance improvement activities as directed.
- Participates in nursing research activities as requested.
- Identifies and solves problems effectively.
- Demonstrates a service-oriented approach in interactions with patients, families, and team members.
- Provides data for staffing decisions and shows flexibility in staffing and floating to other units as needed.
- Proficient in computer and telecommunication tools for documentation and communication, with ability to navigate electronic medical records.
- Performs other related duties as necessary.
