Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The RN II provides care through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with other healthcare team members.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Perform ongoing assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, including nutrition, pain, education, family involvement, and advocacy.
  2. Formulate a goal-directed plan of care when appropriate.
  3. Implement care thoroughly, skillfully, and consistently.
  4. Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.
  5. Identify and meet patient/family learning needs.
  6. Show awareness and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
  7. Provide and coordinate care for patients and populations.
  8. Establish effective working relationships with healthcare team, patients, and families.
  9. Respect staff rights and cultural/ethical beliefs.
  10. Delegate and coordinate duties of team members.
  11. Evaluate care effectiveness by team members.
  12. Use effective communication skills, following authority lines as appropriate.
  13. Apply safety principles within the institution.
  14. Respond efficiently in emergency situations, following protocols, remaining calm, and documenting events.
  15. Take responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
  16. Participate in staff development activities.
  17. Understand legal issues, including confidentiality and risk management.
  18. Participate in performance improvement and research activities.
  19. Identify and solve problems effectively.
  20. Maintain a service-oriented approach in all interactions.
  21. Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility, including floating to other units.
  22. Proficient in computer and telecommunication use for documentation and communication.
  23. Perform other related duties as necessary.
Experience & Education

Basic Qualifications: One year recent experience in L&D or completion of a KP Labor & Delivery Training Program within the past 12 months.

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program with required clinical hours, or equivalent experience as specified.
  • Currently enrolled in an MSN program with pre-licensure requirements completed.
License & Certification
  • California RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Additional Requirements
  • Knowledge of RN scope of practice and commitment to service.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Additional certifications may be required, such as ACLS or fetal monitoring interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWHONN L&D course completion preferred.
  • Recent advanced fetal monitoring course completion preferred.
