Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The RN II provides care through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with other healthcare team members.
Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing systematic assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, including nutrition, pain, education, family involvement, and advocacy.
- Formulate goal-directed plans of care when appropriate.
- Implement care thoroughly, skillfully, and consistently.
- Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.
- Identify and meet patient/family learning needs.
- Be sensitive to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
- Coordinate and provide care for patient populations.
- Establish effective relationships with team members, patients, and families.
- Delegate and coordinate duties of healthcare team members and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Communicate effectively following lines of authority.
- Apply safety principles and perform efficiently in emergency situations.
- Take responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
- Participate in staff development, legal issues, and quality improvement activities.
- Engage in nursing research as requested.
- Identify and solve problems effectively.
- Demonstrate a service-oriented approach in all interactions.
- Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility, including floating to other units.
- Proficiently use computers and telecommunication tools for documentation and communication.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
Experience & Education
- One year recent (within last 3 years) experience in Critical Care or completion of a KP Critical Care Training Program within the past 12 months.
- High School Diploma/GED or graduate of an accredited RN program, with additional experience or enrollment in an MSN program.
Licenses & Certifications
- California RN License
- Basic Life Support
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of RN scope of practice and commitment to service.
- Effective communication skills in English and good interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a Critical Care course is preferred.
