Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated shift. The RN II provides care through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, environment, instrumentation, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing assessments focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, including nutrition, pain, education, family involvement, and advocacy.
- Develop goal-directed care plans when appropriate.
- Implement care thoroughly, skillfully, and consistently.
- Prioritize patient care based on needs and available resources.
- Identify and meet patient and family learning needs.
- Respect patient and family rights, cultural, and ethical beliefs.
- Coordinate and provide care for patient populations.
- Establish effective relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Delegate and coordinate duties appropriately.
- Evaluate care effectiveness provided by team members.
- Use effective communication skills and follow proper lines of authority.
- Apply safety principles and perform efficiently in emergency situations, documenting events accurately.
- Take responsibility for professional practice and participate in staff development.
- Understand legal issues, including confidentiality and risk management.
- Participate in performance improvement and research activities.
- Identify and solve problems effectively.
- Demonstrate a service-oriented approach in all interactions.
- Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility, including floating to other units if needed.
- Proficiently use computers and telecommunication tools, including electronic medical records.
Experience and Education
- One year recent (within last 3 years) experience in Critical Care or completion of a KP Critical Care Training Program within the past 12 months.
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; graduate of an accredited nursing program; or enrolled in an MSN program with pre-licensure completion.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of RN scope of practice
- Strong service orientation and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a Critical Care course
