Position Objective:
Contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare as a provider of direct and indirect patient care and by effective collaboration with the healthcare team. Functions as a competent member of the healthcare team.

1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment
- Demonstrates clinical nursing knowledge and skill in the specialization of the unit.
- Applies the nursing process effectively in caring for culturally diverse patients and families, utilizing applicable laws, policies, standards, guidelines, and evidence-based practices.
- Organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on environmental and patient condition changes.
- Assesses patients thoroughly to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards and policies.
- Uses systematic analysis of assessment data to develop individualized problem lists for patients.
- Develops and individualizes care plans based on standards, priorities, and mutually agreed goals.
- Implements care plans efficiently following policies and guidelines.
- Demonstrates proficiency in medication administration, pain management, and other unit-specific skills.
- Continuously evaluates and revises care plans based on patient responses.
2. Nurse-Patient Family Relationships
- Assesses learning needs, readiness, style, and barriers of patients and families.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates teaching plans aligned with standards.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan in patient care.
- Provides culturally, developmentally, and ethically appropriate direct care.
- Addresses physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and learning needs in care plans.
3. Clinical Scholarship
- Participates in quality improvement, CPI, and risk management activities.
- Strives for excellence in processes to meet quality standards and benchmarks.
- Supports evidence-based guidelines and policies to ensure safe care and practice environment.
4. Clinical Leadership
- Engages in unit shared governance.
- Participates in education and orientation of new staff.
- Delegates and evaluates patient care activities.
- Uses real-time computer documentation for patient records.
5. Unit Specific Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care to adult medical patients aged 18 and above.
- Utilizes telemetry for assessment and manages care during arrhythmic episodes.
- Identifies and manages common nursing diagnoses such as activity intolerance, pain, self-care deficits, and risk for complications.
Helpful: Telemetry experience highly desirable. Competency in telemetry monitoring required within 6 months of hire; training provided.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Meets AAMC credentialing requirements as per nursing bylaws.
Required License/Certifications:
- Current RN licensure by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is possible.
Physical Demands: Medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
