Job summary

Radiant in El Segundo seeks a Staff Nuclear Engineer to lead nuclear design analyses for Kaleidos, spanning core physics, shielding, activation, and regulatory evaluations. You will own major workstreams from requirements through model development, verification, and documentation.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of nuclear engineering experience, deep knowledge of neutron transport and Monte Carlo methods, and a track record of translating analyses into practical reactor designs while mentoring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of nuclear engineering experience across reactor design, analysis, testing, licensing, safety, or operations.
  • Experience owning complex projects with multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of neutron transport theory, Monte Carlo methods, nuclear data, and convergence.
  • Experience with MCNP/OpenMC or comparable neutron/radiation transport models.
  • Strong reactor physics knowledge including criticality, depletion, and uncertainty analysis.
  • Ability to translate results into reactor design decisions and regulatory documentation.
  • Experience developing analytical methods, models, and engineering standards.
  • Familiarity with model verification, configuration control, and peer review.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across reactor physics, shielding, dose, and safety analysis.
  • Own complex projects from requirements to final documentation and validation.
  • Perform analyses on criticality, reactivity, power distribution, depletion, and transport.
  • Develop and review high-fidelity neutron/radiation transport models for design and regulation.
  • Translate analytical results into actionable design decisions affecting core systems and safety.
  • Lead multidisciplinary trades and evaluate interactions between performance and manufacturability.
  • Establish rigorous model verification, uncertainty evaluation, and documentation practices.
  • Mentor engineers and serve as a key technical interface within Radiant.
