Job summary

Google is seeking a Staff Network Engineer for Infrastructure Control Network, based in the Reston, VA or Atlanta, GA areas. The role focuses on owning network outcomes, scalable design, and collaboration with partner teams to drive critical network projects.

Qualified candidates will have 10+ years of experience in routing, design, and troubleshooting across complex, distributed networks, and strong programming skills in C++, Go, or Python.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting with network equipment providers.
• Experience with planning and designing networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products).
• Preferred qualifications include experience with network equipment manufacturer or operator, programming in C++, Go, or Python, and large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical roadmap and architecture, balancing immediate operational needs against long-term scalability and reliability.
• Own end-to-end architectural and design choices.
• Function as the primary technical point of contact for partner teams, aligning on shared OKRs and dependencies.
• Engage in and improve the life cycle of networks from inception to deployment and optimization.
• Scale systems sustainably through automation and reliability improvements.

US: $176000 - $256000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Define the technical roadmap and architecture, balancing immediate operational needs against long-term scalability and reliability.
• Own end-to-end architectural and design choices.
• Function as the primary technical point of contact (TL) for partner teams, working with partner teams to align on shared OKRs, technical dependencies, and life-cycle management.
• Engage in and improve the whole life cycle of networks from inception and design, to qualification and validation, through deployment, operation and optimization.
• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
