Job summary

Nubank is seeking a Staff Mobile Software Engineer to lead the mobile architecture and build the AI Private Banker experiences across iOS and Android.

You will mentor engineers, partner with product/design/backend/AI teams, and own production quality, performance, accessibility, and reliability.

This hybrid role is based in Palo Alto, California, with a strong emphasis on delivering trusted consumer experiences at scale.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Nu is building the AI Private Banker, a flagship AI product designed to bring personalized financial guidance to customers directly inside the Nubank app. As a Staff Mobile Software Engineer, you will be a leading mobile technical voice for this product, shaping new conversational experiences from product definition through production and continuous evolution.

Your scope will be the mobile experience as a whole, not a single feature or set of screens inside an established flow. You will set the mobile architecture and product-engineering direction, shape how these interactions behave inside the app, and make the tradeoffs required to move quickly without compromising performance, accessibility, reliability, or customer trust.

Your impact will extend beyond the initial product experience. You will define reusable UI components, interaction patterns, and technical foundations that other teams can use to build consistent AI experiences across Nubank. You will partner closely with product, design, backend, platform, and AI/ML teams, mentor senior engineers, and remain hands‑on and accountable for the experience in production.

YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Set the technical strategy and architecture for the AI Private Banker mobile experience.
• Lead the design, implementation, launch, and operation of a new conversational consumer product across iOS and Android.
• Partner closely with product and design to translate emerging AI capabilities into interactions that feel simple, useful, and trustworthy.
• Define how the experience handles dynamic responses, latency, interruptions, errors, recovery, feedback, and customer control.
• Build reusable UI components, interaction patterns, and mobile foundations that can support AI experiences across multiple Nubank teams.
• Own production quality across performance, accessibility, testing, instrumentation, observability, release readiness, and post‑launch health.
• Drive alignment across mobile, backend, platform, and AI/ML teams to move complex initiatives from ambiguity to production.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise the broader organization’s standards for mobile architecture, product quality, and customer‑centered engineering.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PERSON WHO HAS

• A demonstrated track record as the founding or lead mobile engineer on a new consumer product or major zero‑to‑one launch, with ownership from early definition through production operation.
• Deep expertise building and operating production mobile applications on either iOS or Android, with strong judgment across the broader mobile stack.
• Experience independently setting architecture and technical direction for a meaningful product area, including making tradeoffs across customer experience, speed, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
• Experience creating shared UI components, interaction patterns, design‑system capabilities, or mobile foundations adopted by teams beyond the immediate product.
• Strong product judgment and experience partnering closely with designers to turn ambiguous concepts into polished consumer experiences.
• Experience building complex, stateful mobile flows with deliberate handling of performance, accessibility, testing, failure states, and recovery.
• Staff‑level influence across engineering and cross‑functional teams, including aligning stakeholders, mentoring senior engineers, and raising technical standards.
• The ability and willingness to remain hands‑on while leading through technical judgment and influence.

Prior AI experience is not required. We care more about the depth of your mobile product ownership and your ability to turn an ambiguous idea into a trusted, high‑quality consumer experience.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience building conversational, assistant, generative AI, or other adaptive product experiences.
• Familiarity with real‑time or streaming interfaces, model latency, uncertain outputs, and graceful failure states.
• Experience launching consumer products across multiple markets, languages, or regulatory environments.
• Experience in fintech or another domain where customer trust, privacy, and reliability are essential.
• Experience working across mobile and API or backend boundaries.

WORK MODEL
