Job summary

Valo Health seeks a Staff Data Scientist, Machine Learning in Epidemiology and Patient Data Products, to join a cross-functional team developing a computational platform for drug discovery. You will build ML tools for patient data and drive adoption across teams under epidemiology and biology leads.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in ML with real-world patient data, strong Python and ML lifecycle skills, and experience navigating healthcare data standards.

Qualifications

• MS/MPH/PhD in health data science or related field with 5 years of ML experience on real-world patient data.
• Experience with EHRs, administrative claims, and registries; familiarity with ICD/LOINC/SNOMED etc.
• Experience building and operating ML pipelines and translating outputs into insights.
• Knowledge of ML paradigms including supervised/unsupervised; transformers a plus.
• Proficient in ML lifecycle: evaluation metrics, hyperparameter tuning, explainability, MLOps.
• Proficiency in Python and modern data science tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of ML methods and analyses of patient data with diverse stakeholders.
• Analyze high-dimensional longitudinal real-world data from EHRs, notes, sequencing, and multi-omics in cloud environments.
• Contribute to design, implementation and evaluation of ML approaches for patient data to provide insights.
• Prioritize problems and collaborate across teams, advocating coding standards and reviews.
• Communicate results and key decisions to cross-functional partners and mentors.
