Reflection is a research lab on a mission to make intelligence open and accessible. We seek a high-ambition researcher to design and implement scalable ML systems, focusing on large language models and data-efficient training.

You will lead small projects while collaborating on bigger initiatives in a fast-paced startup environment. Ideal candidates have MS/PhD in CS/ML, strong Python/PyTorch skills, and experience building large-scale data pipelines and distributed training.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in CS, ML, or related field.
• Strong software engineering with experience building large-scale systems.
• Experience with large-scale ETL workflows and training data preparation.
• Deep knowledge of large-scale ML, LLMs, distributed training, and scaling.
• Proficient in Python and PyTorch.
• Navigate trade-offs between research objectives and engineering realities.
• Thrives in a fast-paced startup with bias toward action.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Passionate about advancing the frontier of intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Research and build solutions across algorithms, scaling laws, data processing, optimizers, and model architecture.
• Design and run scientific experiments to advance understanding of scaling LLMs and data efficiency.
• Implement state-of-the-art methods from the deep learning literature.
• Lead small research projects independently while collaborating on larger initiatives.
• Optimize the training infrastructure for efficient scaling.
• Contribute across the stack from low-level optimizations to high-level model design.
