Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a Staff/Senior Machine Learning Engineer to advance our search and knowledge platforms powering Siri, Safari, and iMessage.

You will design scalable ML systems, develop ranking and retrieval pipelines, and explore Retrieval-Augmented Generation to provide direct answers that satisfy user intent. You will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with product sense, quick learning, and cross-functional communication to implement prompt engineering and data-driven

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS/AI/ML or related field.
• 6+ years of shipping Search and ML systems.
• Strong programming in Python/Go or similar languages and software design fundamentals.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines and backend systems.
• Proficiency with data science methodologies and evaluating ML systems.
• Experience with prompt engineering and product-oriented tasks.
• Excellent communication and data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to improve quality and performance of the search and ranking stack.
• Translate product requirements into concrete engineering tasks.
• Develop scalable ways to measure and compare system impact.
• Apply data science, ML system design, and pipeline development skills.
• Navigate new codebases and complex architectures effectively.
• Communicate findings with cross-functional partners, supported by data.
• Balance ML model training, software engineering, and prompt engineering as needed.
