Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer on the Merchant team. You will build AI/ML systems, including LLMs, to identify and surface high-quality merchants so Pinners can discover brands with greater confidence.

You will lead agentic workflows, evaluation, and production readiness, partnering with product, engineering, data science, design, and policy teams. You will shape the technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and help scale the ML organization while focusing on trust,

Qualifications

• 8+ years of industry experience in ML engineering or software engineering.
• Lead 01 ML/LLM efforts: define approach and deliver production systems with measurable impact.
• Strong track record shipping ML-powered systems in domains like recommendation, ranking, retrieval, or commerce.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications in production with reliability and safe rollout.
• Deep experience with evaluation and measurement: dataset strategy, labeling, metrics, and regression testing.
• Strong systems design skills for data- and ML-intensive systems, balancing performance, cost, and scalability.
• Excellent communication and ability to influence technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery for cross-team ML initiatives from framing to rollout and iteration.
• Set technical direction with leadership, defining milestones and quality bars.
• Build and evolve ML and GenAI systems to improve merchant quality and understanding.
• Establish evaluation practices with datasets, human-in-the-loop reviews, and metrics alignment.
• Design systems with attention to cost, latency, reliability, and observability.
• Lead hiring/onboarding and mentor engineers for production readiness.
