Job summary

Wayve, based in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer for the Core Model Safety team. You will shape end-to-end safety understanding for our autonomous driving backbone and translate research into trained capabilities across our fleet.

You'll lead on transformer-based and multimodal models, mentor peers, and collaborate with research, simulation, and product teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions. This role is full-time, hybrid, with equity benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in ML engineering, including scoping and evals to guide others.
• Proficient in Python, C++, CUDA, and PyTorch with solid software practices.
• Experience with transformer-based and multimodal architectures (VLM/VLA).
• Experience with shared representations across multiple tasks.
• Staff-level technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration.
• Previous work in autonomous vehicles or robotics with real deployments.
• Experience in 3D scene understanding and semantic perception.
• Familiarity with safety-critical architectures and fallback designs.
• Experience with large-scale training infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Drive Core Model Safety roadmap from research to deployment.
• Train and deploy end-to-end AV 2.0 models on the global fleet.
• Build evaluations for core capabilities and representation learning.
• Align roadmaps with AV Core, Evaluation, and Product Engineering.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to cross-functional projects.
• Maintain awareness of business priorities and product programs.
