Job summary

Franklin Energy / AM Conservation seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to support commercial/industrial solar energy system design, including batteries and EV charging.

You will design power/grounding systems, produce AutoCAD plans, perform calculations, oversee construction, and participate in commissioning. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus in electrical power systems.
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in solar, battery and EV charging systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Solar array design experience and commercial solar projects required.

Responsibilities

  • Design power, lighting, and grounding systems for Solar, Batteries, and EV charging with high complexity.
  • Produce plan sets in AutoCAD for AHJ submittals.
  • Perform electrical calculations including short circuit, cable, conduit sizing, grounding, voltage drop, transformer sizing, and load calculations.
  • Lead construction management of commercial solar projects to ensure conformance with contract, drawings, and standards.
  • Review and comment on electrical equipment & vendor drawings.
  • Conduct field inspections and address deficiencies with contractors.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing for new commercial solar projects.
  • Provide expertise on power conversion and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Advise on electrical codes and grid standards for PV installations.
  • Develop feasibility studies and conceptual designs for solar, battery and EV charging projects.
  • Engage with clients, equipment manufacturers, project developers, and lenders.

Position Summary

This position is for a professional Senior Electrical Engineer to provide engineering support for commercial and industrial solar energy system design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Design power, lighting, and grounding systems for Solar, Batteries, and Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging systems with a high level of complexity.
  • Produce plan sets in AutoCAD for AHJ submittals.
  • Perform electrical calculations including short circuit, cable, and conduit sizing, grounding, voltage drop, transformer, equipment sizing, and load calculations.
  • Lead the construction management of commercial solar projects to ensure that projects are installed per the contract, design drawings and company standards.
  • Review and provide comments for electrical equipment & vendor drawing.
  • Conduct field inspections, which require the interpretation and implementation of contract specifications and drawings; note any deficiencies and follow up with contractors on remediation activities.
  • Oversee the commissioning and testing program for new commercial solar projects.
  • Provide electrical expertise concerning power conversion and electrical distribution equipment
  • Provide expertise regarding electrical codes and grid standards as related to solar photovoltaic installations
  • Develop project feasibility studies and conceptual designs (single-line diagram & power plan) for solar, battery and EV charging projects.
  • Engage directly with clients, equipment manufacturers, project developers, and lenders as a matter of course through telephone calls and meetings
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus in electrical power systems
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in a related field, with at least 4 years of experience in the design of solar, battery and EV charging systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
  • Solar array design experience and experience in commercial solar projects is required
