Job description
Overview

We need someone with 7-10 years of experience in mechanical motor design who has a strong background in stators, rotors, and sensor design. You should be comfortable leading engineering decisions on winding technologies, magnet materials, lamination methods, insulation, and electrical interconnections, and have a track record of optimizing electromagnetic performance while ensuring manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. Bonus points if you have a Master\'s degree and experience working in fast-paced, less siloed environments like Tesla or Lucid.

What You Will Do
  • Design stators, rotors, and motor components optimizing electromagnetic performance for EV propulsion systems

  • Lead decisions on winding technologies, magnet materials, and manufacturing methods for motor components

  • Create detailed CAD drawings and perform stress analysis on components under operational loads

  • Execute validation plans (DVP&R) and failure analysis (DFMEA) for motor systems with suppliers

  • Build and test motor prototypes from initial concept through mass production readiness

What You Will Bring
  • Expert motor design knowledge including electromagnetic theory, thermal management, and NVH performance

  • Advanced CAD skills (CATIA preferred) and simulation expertise (FEA, MATLAB, Python) for motor analysis

  • Deep understanding of motor manufacturing processes like stamping, winding, and welding for high-volume production

  • Strong mechanical engineering foundation in materials, dynamics, and GD\&T for precision motor assembly

  • Hands-on experience integrating, testing, and troubleshooting electric motors in EV drivetrain systems

Why you should join ALSO
  • Rare complete ownership. Opportunity to drive and own the mechanical architecture of a brand new light electric vehicle platform, with high exposure to leadership.

  • Massive market timing. $1B valuation pre-product backed by $300M funding to capture the exploding "smaller-than-car" electric mobility market growing 100% YoY globally.

  • Perfect scale moment. World-class team of 120 Rivian veterans in a no-hierarchy environment where technical voices drive decisions – deep enough for excellence, nimble enough for massive individual impact.
