At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security vision. Be a part of the Artemis and Orion teams taking astronauts to the Moon and beyond. This is your chance to be at the center of a generational program that will land the first woman and person of color on the Moon. As an Aeroshell/TPS (Thermal Protection System) Engineer on the Orion program located at the Kennedy Space Center, you will be responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of Mechanical Engineering activities for the Orion spacecraft for Artemis II (first crewed flight), Artemis III (lunar landing), and future missions.

Summary of Key Duties for this position:

• Oversee the development, production, assembly, and verification of the spacecraft's TPS.
• Be the technical advocate through the product's lifecycle
• Support systems/hardware integration, test planning and execution
• Lead nonconformance evaluations, failure investigations and anomaly resolution boards for the spacecraft's Aeroshell/TPS components
• Collaborate with team members across the program including systems engineering, CPEs/RSEs, test labs, manufacturing, quality, and NASA

Desired skills

• Fundamental knowledge of thermal protection materials and applications in extreme environments (Earth re-entry), including AETB-8 tiles, thermal barriers, soft goods, Avcoat or other ablative materials.
Experience with Aeroshell structural design and fabrication, including composite laminates and sandwich panels, and metallic structures.
• Experience supporting real time build operations
• Experience dispositioning non-conformances
• Experience creating 3d models and drawings in CREO parametric
• Experience interpreting and implementing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules
