Job summary

Enphase Energy in Austin, Texas, seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer—Thermals to own thermal architecture for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems. You will design multi-thermal approaches (chiller-based, liquid-cooled, air-cooled, hybrid) for outdoor cabinets and containerized platforms, spanning from concept to deployment.

The role requires hands-on thermal design, advanced simulation, and safety compliance across NFPA and IEC standards.

Qualifications

• Hands-on expertise in thermal system design for utility-scale BESS.
• Experience with NFPA 68/69 and IEC standards for safety compliance.
• Ability to translate simulations into production-ready designs.
• Experience leading DFMEA and root-cause analysis.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Drive thermal architecture, cooling strategy, and safety design for cabinet-level and containerized BESS platforms.
• Design chiller-based, liquid-cooled, air-cooled, and hybrid thermal systems for power electronics.
• Apply first-principles thermal engineering to create efficient cooling solutions.
• Perform system-level and detailed thermal and CFD analyses for production-ready designs.
• Lead arcing analysis and containment design with sensors and venting.
• Drive DFMEA and corrective actions from test data and field feedback.
• Support supplier selection and technical design reviews balancing CAPEX/OPEX.
• Support certification efforts and AHJ interactions across global standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior engineers.
