And now - right as we significantly scale up battery manufacturing - might be the most exciting moment in the company’s history to join. We are assembling a team of highly talented and driven individuals across the country. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, our team is determined to deliver on our mission and transform the energy landscape for the better.

Feeling energized to make a meaningful impact on the world? Then keep reading - you’ve come to the right place.

Role Description

We’re hiring Staff Mechanical Engineers for both our Electrode Engineering and Advanced Product Development teams. The Electrode Engineering team is focused on delivering qualified battery anode and cathode designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. The Advanced Product Development team leads system design of enclosures to integrate cells into an Energy Storage System, implementing thermal, fluids, and power management systems to manage cell performance while optimizing for efficiency and cost.

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in designing components and assemblies for our cells or enclosures! You'll own the design of components and assemblies from concept to production, with a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and assembly. As a problem solver, you'll creatively tackle mechanical design challenges and apply your knowledge of designing plastic and metal components for mass manufacturing. You'll work cross-functionally with teams on requirements definition and verification plans to deliver a design that meets those requirements. Comfortable working in a prototype shop environment, you'll communicate with manufacturers to deliver an optimized, production-ready design. Your design work will span a broad range of engineering disciplines, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics. If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply now!

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design of complex cell or enclosure subassemblies integral to the performance of the product
  • Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering, Electrode Engineering, and Systems Engineering teams
  • Perform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated prototypes
  • Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
  • Demonstrate design functionality through analysis (e.g. FEA, CFD) and component- or system-level testing
  • Work with vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume production
  • Drive verification testing of your design work
  • Mentor or manage other engineers

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 10+ years, or Master's with 8+ years industry experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting
  • Proficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially metal and injection molded plastic components
  • Proficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment
  • Familiarity with mechanical verification testing
  • Experience as a design lead or program lead on a team of Mechanical Engineers
  • Experience with the design and verification of fluidic systems is a plus, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) experience
  • Experience working with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus

Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.

When it comes to you and your family’s health, we cover 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees - and 80% of healthcare premiums for dependents. This starts from day one. We also offer at least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies to give employees time to recharge when needed.

To build America’s energy future, we need everyone at the table. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply to our open jobs.

Form Energy is committed to maintaining the privacy of our applicants. Please be aware that we will never solicit sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank account details during the recruiting or hiring process.
