Job summary

Arlo Technologies is seeking a senior Product Design leader in Carlsbad, CA to own the design, testing, performance and production of wireless security camera products for retail and small business markets.

You will guide from concept to mass production, collaborate with ODM partners and suppliers, and drive performance, cost and schedule while delivering durable enclosures and strong user experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher in Mechanical Engineering; strong design fundamentals.
• Proven ability to lead programs to pilot, mass production and beyond.
• Experience with high-volume consumer electronics and camera-related products.

• Some international travel (approx. 10-15%).

As a full-time member of the Product Design team, you will be a leader responsible for the design, testing, performance, documentation and production of wireless security camera products targeted to retail and small business markets. These products are high-volume and all manufacturing is done in Asia.The successful candidate will manage from concept to production, the design and tooling of plastic and metal enclosures for wireless security camera products intended for use in homes and small to medium offices. Additional tasks may include performing engineering analysis (thermal, stress, and tolerance analysis), design documentation as well as ODM management.

Job Responsibilities:

Skills and Requirements:

• Minimum education level of BSME from accredited university
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals required
• Ability to lead programs and drive issues to closure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and explain mech design concepts to a diverse audience of stakeholders.
• Minimum8+ years experience in the fields of Product Design and/or mechanical engineering in high-end consumer electronics such as smart devices, IoT, connected home,or a similar consumer-oriented field or5+ years experience plus a Master’s degree.
• Deep experience in consumer electronics/product design experience
• Proven history working closely with ambitious Industrial Design,functionality and ecosystems
• Extensive 3D CAD experience, preferably with Creo, Solid works and other CAD tools considered. Experience including complex surfacing. Experience should be recent, within last 5 years at least.
• Experience designing camera or camera related products
• Superior expertise in plastic injection mold part design
• Experience designing outdoor, weatherproof enclosures
• Understanding of die casting, adhesives, stamping, machining, and rapid prototypes
• Understanding of tolerance analysis
• Experience with progressive-die sheet metal part design
• Extensive design experience with high-volume of over 1 million/yr., low-cost products
• Effective leadership, organization and project management skills
• Proven ability and willingness to take ownership of project; ability to get the job done with minimal supervision
• Experience in successfully leading projects through to pilot, mass production and beyond
• Proven ability to track and resolve issuesExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Self-starter that works well on a team
• Sensitivity to design aesthetics
• Fluency in Mandarin is a plus!

The pay range for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries at commencement of employment and is expected to be between $140,000 – 170,000/year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including location, role, job-related knowledge, skills, relevant education and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including bonus, equity, and a full range of benefits.
