Job summary

Relativity Space is hiring a Staff Materials and Process Engineer to bring metallurgical and manufacturing-process expertise into the Awerx design-for-manufacturing systems. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of materials and process engineering in aerospace or high-reliability metal hardware.
• Expertise in physical metallurgy across nickel-based superalloys, copper alloys, aluminum, and titanium.
• Hands-on experience with directed energy deposition (WAAM, laser DED, or electron-beam DED) and integrating with CNC machining.
• Experience designing and running test programs and generating NAVSEA/MMPDS design allowables.
• Proficiency in Python or a similar language for data analysis and scripting.

Responsibilities

• Encode metallurgy and process knowledge into Awerx DFM systems with rules, windows, models, and checks.
• Develop process guidance for WAAM, CNC machining, and their combination.
• Characterize how process routes affect microstructure, residual stress, defects, and properties in alloys.
• Plan and run validation programs in lab and shop, including coupons and heat treatment.
• Lead materials and process qualification for hybrid-manufactured hardware per NAVSEA/MMPDS.
• Collaborate with software engineers, production, materials, and suppliers to specify features and constraints.
