Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Engineer for thermal products to lead process and product development for cooling solutions in high‑performance compute hardware.

You will guide qualification of new processes and suppliers, enabling scalable manufacturing across lines and vendors, and work across multiple teams to optimize designs and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/industrial/processing/manufacturing engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in process, design, or product development for mechanical assemblies.
  • 12 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or product engineering for hardware technology and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Address the most challenging, open-ended manufacturing issues where solutions are not well-defined, including issues related to yield, quality, cost, scalability, and New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Serve as a go-to technical expert within a significant area of manufacturing engineering (e.g., automation, test, process development, DFX).
  • Help define the medium and long-term technical strategy and manufacturing architecture for scalability and robustness and influence the supply chain selection for next‑generation hardware to support Google Cloud and machine learning.
  • Drive initiatives that result in step‑change improvements in cost, quality, efficiency, or capabilities.
  • Lead and influence across multiple teams, including Hardware Engineering, Product Design, Supply Chain, Operations, and Quality, to optimize product designs and manufacturing processes even in competing priorities.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial, Process, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in process, design, or product development for mechanical assemblies.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • 12 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or product engineering for hardware technology and systems.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of relevant process or product development experience for thermal assemblies for small to large electronic systems.
  • Experience with machining, welding, brazing (furnace, vacuum), soldering, sintering, stamping, skiving, assembly, die casting, injection molding, leak detection, test design and product testing, quality control, equipment and fixture design.
  • Experience in technical leadership, project management, and executive communication.

As a part of the Thermal Manufacturing Engineering team, you will deliver cooling solutions for Google Cloud responsible for serving all of Google's functions and customers. You will be a part of the team that pushes boundaries, developing custom cooling solutions for the future of Google Cloud's computing and machine learning. Your expertise will shape the next-generation of hardware, delivering unparalleled performance, efficiency, and scale.

As s Staff Manufacturing Engineer for thermal products, you will be a technical lead for process and product development for cooling solutions for all of Google's compute hardware, including the largest liquid cooled compute fleet in the world serving all of Google's internal and external Cloud customers. You will use a deep understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, brazing, stamping, assembly, and skiving, enable product design and development for next-generation thermal solutions at scale. In this role, with a background in industrial engineering, you will not only help guide qualification new processes and suppliers but you will also guide teams to optimize designs, production processes, lines, and vendors to help build better supply chains. You will have an understanding of design methods, tools, and requirements, advocate for team efforts to provide Design for Excellence (DFx) feedback, tolerance stack analysis, and thermal design considerations to enable manufacturing, automation, and scalability.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
