Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Electrode to support electrode processing for our iron‑air battery program. You will lead calendering, drying and slitting, partner with process engineers, and drive equipment customization from RFI to SAT.

You will mentor technicians, work with external suppliers, and help bring lines to SOP readiness while ensuring safety and reliability in a high‑volume manufacturing environment at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering in a pilot line or fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of equipment purchasing, commissioning and testing.
  • Proficiency with statistical methods and tools for process development decisions (JMP, Minitab, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with calendering, drying and slitting processes.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills for process, safety, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage vendors through equipment design, lead FAT, commissioning and SAT for high-volume calendering, drying and slitting operations.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering to ensure equipment design matches process needs.
  • Work with procurement to identify and select equipment suppliers.

  • Champion safety while scaling designs to full production volume.

Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Electrode to support our electrode processing team. Our team is responsible for partnering with vendors to design, develop and scale cutting-edge electrode manufacturing equipment for Form Energy’s Iron-Air multi-day battery.
As a Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Electrode, you will be at the forefront of scaling our novel product, to high volume manufacturing processes. Your expertise with process scaling and rapid troubleshooting will have a direct impact on the design and operations of the equipment that creates Form’s Gas Diffusion Cathode. Your main focus area will be calendering, drying and slitting. You will work side by side with the process engineering team who will be designing experimental trials and identifying and optimizing key process inputs. You will then take this information and ensure the design of the next generation equipment meets the process needs. You will work with external suppliers to size, design, purchase, land and commission equipment. You will own the cycle from RFI to SAT. After SAT, you will support the process engineering team in bringing the line to SOP readiness. You will facilitate the smooth integration of new equipment and maximize flexibility. No problem is too big or small for our team, which allows us to move quickly to develop our cutting edge technology! This role will be located at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, which is just a short drive outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Relocation assistance is available.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage vendors through equipment design,, lead FAT, commissioning and SAT for state of the art equipment for high volume calendering, drying and slitting operations

  • Partner closely with our Process Engineering Team to ensure the equipment design is matched to process needs.

  • Work with the procurement team to identify and select equipment suppliers.

  • Mentor, guide, and support technicians and junior process engineers on new manufacturing equipment, processes, equipment purchasing cycles, acceptance testing and commissioning cycles.

  • Be a champion for safety while scaling initial process designs to full production volume.

What You’ll Bring:
  • 7+ years of experience with manufacturing engineering in a pilot line or fast-paced manufacturing environment, such as NPI or scale-up.

  • Demonstrated track record of equipment purchasing, commissioning and testing and desire to roll up your sleeves and fill the gaps where necessary.

  • Proficiency with statistical methods and tools for making process development decisions (using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with calendering, drying and slitting processes.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and experience authoring process, safety, and quality documentation for best-in-class practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
