We are seeking a passionate Machine Learning Engineer to build and scale the DTC personalization systems and services for our new global streaming app, Max, as well as future DTC streaming apps. You will act as a leader, collaborating seamlessly with modeling and engineering teams to architect systems serving millions worldwide. You should be excited about fostering innovation through prototyping, development, experimentation, and production, balancing rapid feature iteration with building scalable platforms and tools.
Architect, build, and scale recommendation systems powering search and personalization experiences across Max, HBO, Discovery+, and other WBD platforms.
Collaborate with ML engineers to develop and improve core components, infrastructure, and architecture for training, deploying, and serving models at scale.
Work with data scientists, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to drive ML projects from conception to completion.
Utilize and build upon open-source cloud computing technologies.
Participate in strategic planning with engineering leaders, demonstrating good judgment in setting and achieving team goals.
Mentor and influence engineers across organizations, leading by example with high-quality work.
Motivate and inspire a culture of experimentation and data-driven innovation, advocating for customer-centric solutions.
8+ years of industry experience, with 4+ years in a tech lead role (preferred).
Deep knowledge of search systems, information retrieval, and ranking algorithms; experience with NLP is a plus.
Understanding of large-scale distributed application architecture, design, implementation, and performance tuning.
Proficiency in modern machine learning lifecycle practices.
5+ years programming experience in Python/Java, with ability to prototype rapidly and refine for production.
Ability to drive the roadmap of scalable, production-quality systems end-to-end.
Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting to large audiences.
Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or equivalent experience in software engineering, computer science, or related fields.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.

In compliance with legal requirements, the salary range for this role is $145,600 - $270,400 annually, with additional benefits and incentives. Salaries depend on various factors including experience, location, and performance. We also support candidates with criminal records in accordance with applicable laws.
