Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Chicago is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer. The successful candidate will assist in the development of design drawings and specifications for HVAC control systems, coordinate with design teams, and evaluate vendor bids. A Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least three years of experience is required. The position offers a salary range of $120,000 to $170,000, along with a robust benefits package, including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of applicable engineering experience required (consulting preferred).
  • Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of design drawings for HVAC control systems.
  • Coordinate with teams to develop Sequences of Operations for systems.
  • Create engineering drawings for control panel designs.
  • Manage quality reviews of project submittals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in development of design drawings and specifications for HVAC control systems and EPMS, for both PLC‑based systems and DDC‑based systems (system client‑specific).
  • Coordinate with mechanical and electrical design teams to develop Sequences of Operations and Point Lists for HVAC control and electrical monitoring of equipment and systems.
  • Create engineering drawings for control panel and field wiring designs, including installation details, bill of material, and P&IDs.
  • Manage quality reviews of project submittals.
  • Evaluate technical bids and manage vendor and subconsultant contracts.
  • Review and approve vendor and subconsultant drawings, including Sequences of Operation, Points Lists, Engineering Drawings, Bill of Materials, Graphics, and Test Scripts.
  • Participate in Software Bench Tests, Software Factory Acceptance Tests, and Equipment Factory Witness Tests.
  • Provide technical assistance during commissioning at project site.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Facilitate multi‑consultant and owner meetings for design changes and implementation.
  • Lead production of engineering drawings using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Electrical, or ePlan.
  • Support RFI responses and associated work plans.
  • Ensure adherence to client and industry standards and apply client or industry guidelines, specifications, practices and procedures in preparing designs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related ABET‑accredited program, and 3 years of applicable engineering experience required (consulting preferred).
  • Master’s Degree in the above Engineering programs or related, and 2 years of applicable engineering experience required (consulting preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) to develop instrument datasheets.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Compensation

$120,000.00 – $170,000.00 yearly. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.
