Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Technical Program Manager to oversee timing, status, and readiness of in-house components, coordinating with S&E engineering and Product Management. You will drive hardware design, validation, and cross-team integration across GM and external partners.

You will define milestones, track dependencies, and report progress to leadership, ensuring deliverables align with major milestones and customer needs. This role requires hybrid work in Sunnyvale, CA or Warren, MI.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Technical Program Management experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing contract manufacturers in hardware development (PCBA design release, BOM management, SMT processes, manufacturing test).
  • Ability to understand complex hardware/software systems and product development process.
  • Familiarity with hardware design and development processes including board-level design, mechanical engineering, and hardware validation.
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills.
  • Be detail-oriented and able to bring order and organization to any team.
  • Ability to handle ambiguities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Create and own program milestones, cross-team integration schedule and execution plans.
  • Coordinate hardware design, development and validation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop hardware validation plans aligned with internal customer needs and major company milestones.
  • Proactively resolve issues and drive course corrections as needed.
  • Help manage and drive complex, fast-evolving hardware systems and components.
  • Coordinate engagement with a Contract Manufacturer for PCBA/Mechanical design releases, hardware builds and validation.
  • Capture and track inter-team dependencies and handoffs; monitor and help resolve issues.
  • Ensure business deliverables are identified and tracked with due dates in the project plan.
  • Facilitate decision making among GM stakeholders to develop scope of work and project plans.
  • Define program deliverables, metrics and KPIs; set up tracking/reporting.
  • Communicate progress across program teams and lead hardware reviews with GM leadership.
  • Conduct periodic retrospectives; continuously improve processes and tools.

Job Description
The Role:

The Technical Program Manager in the Software and Electronics (S&E) Program Management Office (PMO) is an individual contributor responsible for overseeing the timing, status, and readiness of new in-house designed components. This role involved close collaboration with the S&E Engineering team and Product Management. As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will be pivotal in coordinating hardware engineering efforts, identifying key challenges, and partnering with systems and software teams to facilitate the production of in-house designed components.

What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with company leaders, Program Management Office and hardware/software TPMs to create and own program milestones, cross-team integration schedule and execution plans.
  • Coordinate hardware design, development and validation efforts in a fast-paced, multi-

Facilitates amicable solutions with the appropriate customer(s) and project sponsor/owner.
  • Define program deliverables, metrics and KPIs. Set up mechanisms to track/report.
  • Communicate progress effectively across program teams, including third parties and lead meetings to present hardware engineering work to GM leadership.
  • Conduct periodic retrospectives; continuously assess and improve processes and tools.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • BS in engineering, science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of Technical Program Management experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing contract manufacturers in the development of new hardware products, including responsibilities such as PCBA design release, BOM management, SMT processes, and manufacturing test implementation
  • Ability to understand complex hardware/software systems and product development process
  • Familiarity with hardware design and development processes including board-level design, mechanical engineering, and hardware validation
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills
  • Be detail-oriented and able to confidently bring order and organization to any team
  • Ability to handle ambiguities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.
Hybrid:

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week, at minimum. This position will be located in Sunnyvale, CA or Warren, MI.

Compensation:

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

  • The salary range for this role is $134,700 to $245,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance

Company Vehicle:

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
