Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team to build secure authentication and authorization infrastructure that powers Coinbase products and partner integrations.

You'll design and operate distributed Go services, ensure observability and low latency, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, security, and infra teams to balance security with user experience.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend software engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of Go or similar systems language and building reliable distributed services.
• Experience designing secure APIs with OAuth2/OpenID Connect/JWTs.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure Go/gRPC services for Coinbase products with observability and SLOs.
• Lead designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware authentication, and mobile OAuth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion and protection.
• Create self-service tooling to scale access capabilities; mentor engineers.
