Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will help shape secure authentication and authorization across Coinbase platforms, designing and operating capabilities with low latency and strong observability.

Required are 8+ years in backend engineering, Go or a similar language, and experience with OAuth/OpenID Connect. The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, security, and scalable tooling.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in backend software engineering with distributed systems in production.
• Experience designing secure APIs with OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect and JWTs.
• Proficiency in Go or a comparable language and building high-throughput services.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, account recovery, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase products with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for complex initiatives like signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance conversion, security, and compliance.
• Simplify integration patterns and build self-service tooling for scalable access controls.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
