Job summary

Boston Dynamics in Waltham, MA is seeking a Staff Hardware Test Engineer to join our Central Hardware Team. You will validate, qualify and help deliver cutting edge robotics designs alongside design engineers.

You will develop test strategies, write Python tooling, perform data analysis, build test fixtures, run DVT and compliance tests, and communicate results clearly to drive design improvements and quality.

This role requires up to 10% travel to off-site facilities.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with NI LabVIEW, Python, and UNIX-like OS.
• Experience with test automation.
• Experience with communication interfaces: CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C.
• Hands-on experience designing, building and debugging electro-mechanical test setups.
• Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes.
• Experience with compliance testing including conducted/radiated emissions and safety.

The Hardware Test Engineer will be working side-by-side with our design engineers to validate, qualify and help deliver cutting edge robotics designs. What You Bring:

• Experience with NI LabVIEW, python, and command-line operations in a UNIX-like OS
• Experience with test automation
• Experience with communication interfaces, e.g. CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C
• Hands-on experience designing, building and debugging electro-mechanical test setups
• Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes
• Experience with compliance testing including conducted/radiated emissions and safety
• Be able to multitask, and change priorities quickly as needed
• Experience with PCB rework and cable assembly
• Be able to clearly communicate test results and data

Nice to Have Skills:

• Familiarity with low-level embedded firmware [C/C++] and FPGAs
• Familiarity with functional safety
• Familiarity with motor drives
• Familiarity with position encoder and force sensor technology
• Familiarity testing high-speed interfaces
• Experience working with robots and/or robotic systems
• Experience with DFMEA and HALT

This role requires up to 10% travel to off-site facilities. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The salary range for this position will be clearly stated in the job posting as required by Massachusetts law. The base pay range for this position is between $117,000 - $145,000. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
