Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Staff GNC Engineer - Flying Qualities (Level 5) to join our Vehicle Engineering team in Melbourne, Florida. The role covers design and development of guidance, navigation and control algorithms and tools for advanced aircraft systems.

Ideal candidates possess a strong background in flight sciences, control law development, and experience with MATLAB/Simulink, with clearances required for government work.

Qualifications

  • Requires BS in STEM with 12 years of relevant experience, or MS with 10 years, or PhD with 8 years.
  • Active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within past 6 years or Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance within a reasonable time with Interim Top Secret clearance prior to start.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance as needed.
  • Experience supporting airworthiness assessments for aircraft flying qualities, stability, and/or control.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and/or autocoding Simulink models.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, verify and test algorithms, software and simulation tools for guidance, navigation and control (GNC).
  • Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance and stability requirements in ground and flight.
  • Create dynamic models and integrate them into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
  • Support design reviews at PDR/CDR and other milestones with analysis.
  • Analyze flight test data and support flight test activities.
  • Participate in technical exchanges and milestone reviews with internal and external stakeholders.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is hiring a Staff GNC Engineer - Flying Qualities (Level 5) to join our Vehicle Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Key Responsibilities May Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Design, develop, implement, verify and test algorithms, software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control (GNC).
  • Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight.
  • Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments.
  • Develop analysis to support design reviews at different stages in a development program, such as PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Analyze air vehicle flight test data and support flight test activities.
  • Attend or present at internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must have Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 12 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 10 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs, with an Interim Top Secret clearance required prior to start.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Must have experience supporting airworthiness assessments for aircraft flying qualities, stability, and/or control.
  • Must have experience on multi-disciplinary GNC engineers on a development program.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and/or autocoding Simulink models.
  • Experience in supplier/customer relationship management, including briefing, coordinating, and/or following up.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active US Government Top Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Knowledge of C/C++, Java, Python.
  • Knowledgeable in the area of flight sciences, control law development, and control system analysis.
  • Experience writing/reviewing technical documents: CDRLS, SSOWs, SRDs, ICDs, SDRL reviews, etc.
  • Experience leading/coordinating as focal point with supplier and customer/government (Hosting recurring meetings, arranging TIMs, etc.)

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
