Job summary

Bobyard is building the core platform for automated takeoffs and estimates in the construction industry. You will own architecture across React, Django, and PostgreSQL, setting the bar for engineers and driving high-scale, data-dense applications.

You will mentor engineers, lead cross-team initiatives, and ship features end-to-end on a fast-moving team in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and running production web apps (frontend through infra).
• Deep React and Python backend experience (Django preferred).
• Owned the architecture of a system that scaled to significant usage.
• Led technical direction across teams and mentored engineers.
• Strong product judgment; able to protect scope.

Responsibilities

• Own platform architecture end to end: APIs, data models, frontend, and infra.
• Make design calls that hold at 100x usage, and document them.
• Lead cross-team work with CV, product, and design from scope to launch.
• Ship complete features yourself across the stack.
• Set standards for code review, testing, and performance.
• Run production on AWS and GCP, and cut operational load.
• Mentor engineers and raise the hiring bar.

About Bobyard

Construction is a multi-trillion-dollar industry that still estimates by hand. Contractors measure and count materials off drawings manually, and it caps how many jobs they can bid. Bobyard uses computer vision and NLP to automate takeoffs and estimates, so contractors bid faster and win more. We raised a $35M Series A led by 8VC, with Primary and Pear, and we're growing fast.

About the role

You'll own the architecture of our core platform across React, Django, and PostgreSQL, and set the bar for the engineers building on it. The hard part: huge drawings, dense estimates, and CV output contractors check line by line, in one app that has to stay fast as we add trades.

What we're looking for
