East Georgia State College is seeking a full-time Public Safety Officer responsible for maintaining security and safety on campus. Key duties include conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, and enforcing policies in support of a safe campus environment. Ideal candidates should possess a strong commitment to safety protocols, have a high school diploma, and relevant experience in security or law enforcement.

Job SummaryPerforms a variety of duties related to campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, and public order maintenance in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the East Georgia State College Police Department. Augments departmental protection services, in a non-sworn capacity, through preventive patrol, safety / security inspections, coordination of emergency preparedness drills, delivery of instructional programming and enforcement of college policies. Provides support services to law enforcement and assists first responders by performing functions and activities not exclusively reserved for sworn peace officers. This is a position of Trust.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand or sit for prolonged periods, walk, run while changing direction, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, smell and engage in repetitive motions. The employee may be required to move or drag persons weighing up to 150 pounds. The employee may be required to defend against physically combative persons or assist law enforcement with subduing or restraining physically combative persons. The employee frequently uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of manual dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, distinguishment between shades of color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work is performed in buildings and outdoors, occasionally in extreme hot, cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and hazardous or physically dangerous situations. Work requires the use of protective devices such as ballistic vests, masks, goggles, gloves, etc. as well as other specialized law enforcement equipment.
The work schedule is shift work based on the needs of the College. Employees must have the ability to work flexible shift hours and schedules that include weekends, holidays, and evenings. Employees may be required to remain on duty beyond a normal shift and must be available to report for duty without prior notice due to on-call status, special events, emergencies or personnel shortages.
