Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a highly motivated Staff Fuel System Engineer to lead the design, integration, and fielding of a next-generation autonomous aircraft fuel system, acting as Responsible Engineer from requirements to flight.

You will collaborate with propulsion, vehicle teams, suppliers, and flight operations, solve complex thermo-fluid problems, and drive testing and data-driven improvements in a fast-paced development environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in aerospace fuel systems or related aircraft systems.
• Strong thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer knowledge.
• Proficiency in Python for engineering analysis and data reduction.
• U.S. Citizenship and active security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Responsible Engineer for the aircraft fuel system from concept through deployment.
• Design, size, and integrate fuel tanks, pumps, valves, plumbing, venting, and related hardware.
• Analyze fuel system performance across operating envelope and transient conditions.
• Lead design reviews, supplier engagements, and hardware procurement.
• Plan and execute component, subsystems, and vehicle-level testing and flight readiness.
• Analyze ground and flight data to validate performance and drive improvements.
• Lead failure investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and integrate flight hardware.
