Job description

Quanta

Quanta is an AI-powered accounting and finance platform that fixes a major frustration for businesses: stale and slow financial data. We can do in seconds what takes our competitors weeks, which is why we’re trusted by many of today’s fastest growing startups.

By rebuilding accounting from the ground up, we enable business decisions to be made with timely, complete, and explainable financial information. Many of today’s fastest‑growing startups, including Decagon, Braintrust, Browserbase, and Mintlify, rely on Quanta as their financial foundation.

The Team

We are a tight‑knit team of 17, working fully in‑person in downtown San Francisco.

Our backgrounds sit at the intersection of finance and engineering. As a group, we have built accounting systems at Affirm, ledgers at Stripe and Robinhood, and companies from the ground up. We have passed CPA exams, built finance teams from one to dozens, shipped 0→1 products, and scaled systems that support billions in transactions.

We understand our customers because we have been in their shoes. We care deeply about correctness, trust, and building systems that last. We are opinionated about the future of finance and committed to building it together.

We are defining the Operational Ledger, a new financial foundation for how businesses truly understand themselves.

If you want to work on deep, consequential systems, financial data is one of the hardest places to do it well. Finance sits at the center of every business, yet most software makes it difficult to see how numbers are constructed or why they can be trusted. Accounting is the foundation. The goal is a live, queryable financial system businesses can reason from. By running the day‑to‑day accounting workflows alongside our customers, we turn messy, judgment‑heavy financial data into a reliable, queryable system of record.

Our backend systems establish correctness. The front‑end must establish proof.

In accounting, trust comes from traceability. When someone sees a number in Quanta, they should be able to drill into it, follow it to the underlying transactions, and understand how it was produced. If they cannot do that, the system does not matter.

As we scale engineering output, including agentic tools that generate code, front‑end coherence becomes a systems problem. The interface has to remain consistent, explainable, and structurally aligned with the ledger beneath it.

We are hiring a Staff Front‑end Engineer to define how that system is built.

What You’ll Do
Build the trust surface

Front‑end at Quanta is not a presentation layer. It is where financial reasoning becomes visible.

You will build interfaces where:

  • Every number is drillable to its source.

  • Relationships are clear, including how figures roll up and what changed.

  • Users can move from summary to detail without losing context.

You will work directly with our in‑house accountants and our product designer. We care about clean, thoughtful design. Delight is welcome, but never at the expense of clarity or traceability. The interface must mirror financial reasoning.

Own the front‑end architecture

You will spend most of your time writing production code in React and TypeScript.

You will:

  • Establish clear patterns for components, state management, and data access.

  • Refactor early implementations into durable abstractions.

  • Define contracts between front‑end and back‑end systems so financial logic is represented faithfully.

  • Evolve the design system into something consistent and extensible.

You are not here to build isolated features. You are here to define the foundations other engineers build on.

Set standards for humans and AI

All engineers at Quanta write front‑end code. Increasingly, AI tools help generate it. That increases speed, and it increases the risk of inconsistency.

Your job is to make the right way the easy way.

You will:

  • Define conventions that generated code can reliably follow.

  • Establish testing and review expectations.

  • Review nuanced changes early.

  • Encode your judgment into structure and tooling so review load drops over time.

The goal is not to personally gate every change. The goal is to build a front‑end system that scales without losing coherence.

Raise the bar across the company

As a Staff engineer, your impact goes beyond the code you write.

You will:

  • Prevent architectural drift before it compounds.

  • Work closely with back‑end engineers so the interface reflects the underlying financial model.

  • Help shape how our agentic layer Prism presents answers so results are explainable rather than magical.

Your work determines whether the Operational Ledger feels trustworthy in practice.

What We’re Looking For
  • 8 or more years of front‑end engineering experience, including ownership of architecture or shared standards

  • Deep experience in React and TypeScript in complex product environments

  • Strong systems thinking across components, state, and API boundaries

  • A track record of raising engineering standards, not just shipping features

  • Comfort working in a dense, data‑heavy domain

  • Clear technical judgment and the confidence to use it

This Role Is Not for You If…
  • You see front‑end primarily as aesthetic expression rather than as a system of constraints.

  • You optimize for novelty over clarity and trust.

  • You prefer bespoke implementations over repeatable primitives.

  • You are uncomfortable engaging deeply with data models and domain logic.

  • You want AI to move faster but are not interested in building the structure that keeps systems coherent.

Trust is the product. The interface has to reflect that.

What Success Looks Like in 6 to 12 Months
  • The front‑end has a coherent architecture and consistent patterns.

  • Core surfaces have been refactored into reusable abstractions.

  • Engineers and AI tools ship within established guardrails.

  • Review load decreases because standards are encoded into the system.

  • Accountants instinctively drill into numbers to validate outputs.

  • The UI reinforces the correctness of the ledger.

You feel ownership not just over screens, but over how Quanta earns trust.

  • Competitive early‑stage salary ($205K-265K)
