Position Title: Staff Engineer Reports To: Director or Division LeadDepartment: Structural FLSA Status: ExemptSummary:The Staff Engineer operates under the direct stewardship of a Director or Division Lead and serves as an entry-level engineering role focused on development, training, and foundational technical execution. This position is intended for non-licensed engineers early in their careers and is designed to support the acquisition of professional experience required for future licensure.The Staff Engineer provides technical and production support across a variety of design projects, construction materials, and means and methods, while working under the direct mentorship of licensed professional engineers. This role offers exposure to engineering design, documentation, project coordination, and customer interaction while building core skills, judgment, and familiarity with company standards.Primary Duties:Technical Execution & Design SupportAssist with drafting, modeling, and preparation of construction documents under the oversight and direction of the Project ManagerSupport design development tasks for single-family, multi-family, and other assigned projectsContribute to delegated product development and design tasks in collaboration with the Project ManagerPerform preliminary design analyses, including wind load calculations, for coordination with delegated design of pre-manufactured building components, under supervisionResearch and evaluate new or alternative products, systems, and materials to support design templates and program alternativesReview applicable building codes and product specifications as part of the learning processParticipate in advanced design tasks at the discretion and direction of the Project ManagerConstruction Administration SupportAssist with field calls and Requests for Information (RFIs) under the supervision of the Project ManagerSupport generation of revisions and addenda as directedProject Support, Tracking & CommunicationMaintain logs of work performed and track assigned tasksEffectively track time and job status to support efficient project workflowUtilize project tracking software competently and consistentlyCommunicate progress, questions, and issues clearly with the Project ManagerParticipate in customer and consultant communications and meetings alongside senior team members as appropriateProfessional DevelopmentCorrespond with customers, design professionals, and contractors under supervisionAttend and participate in project meetings to build communication and collaboration skillsActively seek feedback, coaching, and learning opportunities from licensed engineersGeneral ResponsibilitiesUse available resources efficiently and effectivelyPerform other duties as assignedKnowledge:Minimum Bachelor Degree in Engineering and plan to pursue professional licensure (EI)Minimum 0 – 2 Years of Experience of equivalent work experience requiredFoundational knowledge of engineering principles and terminologyBasic understanding of applicable codes and standardsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, and engineering toolsWillingness to learn internal workflows and quality standardsSkills & Abilities:Clear written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrates leadership through collaboration and teamworkDeveloping organizational skillsDeveloping attention to detail and commitment to thorough, precise workAbility to meet deadlines with supportWilling, helpful, and positive team-oriented natureAbility to build productive working relationships with internal stakeholdersWork Environment/Physical Demands:General Office Environment.
