Job description

The Redfish / BMC / IPMI Developer will be involved in the end-to-end development and maintenance of systems management solutions. They will actively contribute to the development, integration, and enhancement of Redfish API standards, BMC firmware functionalities, and IPMI commands and procedures. Position Responsibilities

1. As a Staff Engineer, you will :
2. Design and develop sophisticated server management solutions using Redfish API standards
3. Enhance and maintain BMC firmware, ensuring optimal hardware-software integration
4. Implement, optimize, and troubleshoot IPMI-related procedures
5. Collaborate with various teams to customize Redfish standards for specific product needs
6. Work closely with hardware teams in developing and enhancing BMC firmware functionality
7. Lead the diagnostic processes, troubleshooting, and issue resolution related to systems management
8. Uphold stringent security protocols across all systems management solutions
9. Develop comprehensive automated testing procedures to validate functionality
10. Produce detailed technical documentation and provide training for relevant stakeholders
11. Participate in comprehensive system design reviews and API specifications evaluations
12. Implement and improve IPMI commands and procedures to ensure seamless integration and communication between software and hardware
13. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define new capabilities based on Redfish standards tailored to our products
14. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to systems management, including diagnostics with BMC and remote management applications
15. Stay updated with the latest advancements in Redfish standards, BMC functionalities, and IPMI enhancements
16. Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
17. Focus on multiple areas and provide leadership to the engineering teams
18. Own complete solution across its entire life cycle
19. Utilize programming languages like Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
20. Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potential
21. Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams

Qualifications

1. Hands-on experience with BMC firmware development, including knowledge of underlying hardware and software interactions
2. Proficiency in IPMI tool suite, with demonstrated knowledge of command sets, KVM, SOL, and remote connectivity methods
3. Proficient with BMC functionalities and out of band management interfaces / protocols such as PECI, Redfish, and IPMI
4. Demonstrated ability in firmware development or system-level software development
5. Hands-on experience with implementing solutions around OpenBMC, AGESA, ODIM
6. Experience with C / C++ development, bash / python / GO for scripting, and debugging skills in embedded Linux operating environments
7. Deep knowledge of Server Systems including SBIOS, Network, power, rack layouts, cabling, and experience with Compute, Storage and GPU servers
8. Good understanding of CPU architecture, DDR4, UPI, PCIe, NVMe, ACPI, RAS, Power Management, TPM / TXT, and EDKII, and Secure boot
9. Familiar with UEFI driver development and various UEFI protocols is a plus
10. Advanced knowledge of OS internals and how BIOS / UEFI interacts with OS
11. Familiarity with standard cryptographic practices and secure coding standards
12. In-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms
13. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
14. Strong problem-solving ability
15. Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment

Required Experience

1. 4+ years of hands-on experience in systems / server management specifically focusing on Redfish, BMC, and IPMI standards
2. 4+ years of experience in a collaborative development environment, utilizing modern software development methodologies
3. 4+ years coding experience in one of the following languages : C / C++ development, Bash, Python or GO
4. 4+ years of experience in developing and maintaining large scale, high-availability systems
5. 3+ years of experience with automated testing, documentation, and troubleshooting in a hardware / software integration context
6. 3+ years of experience working with security protocols and products : Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
7. Active contributor to industry standards like Open Compute (OCP), IPMI, DMTF Standards, and open source is highly desirable
8. Proven record in delivering BMC or equivalent manageability stack for enterprise servers

Desired Experience

1. 8+ years of professional software development experience
2. 5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
3. 5+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
4. 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
5. 1+ years of technical leadership experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
