Job summary

Stryker in Portage, MI is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer on the Mako Enabling Technology team within Research & Development to lead the design and development of life-changing medical devices.

You will translate user needs into design specifications, drive prototyping and testing, resolve complex design issues with data-driven analysis, and mentor others in design control as you collaborate cross-functionally from concept to launch.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing creation and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices.
  • Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions.
  • Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance.
  • Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Apply clinical knowledge to author design inputs and support Voice of Customer sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch.

You will need to live within commuting distance to Stryker’s Portage, MI office and be on-site 5 days per week.

What You Will Do
  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision.
  • Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions.
  • Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance.
  • Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Apply clinical knowledge to author design inputs and support Voice of Customer sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing creation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality systems in a regulated environment.
  • Experience using Creo for 3D modeling, design development, and engineering documentation.

$102,600 - $171,000 USD Annual
