Vistance Networks in San Diego, CA is seeking a Network Engineer to design, deploy, and support secure enterprise networks across multiple sites. This role requires hands-on expertise in multi-vendor environments, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers, with a focus on reliability and security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
  • 3+ years of experience with load-balancing technologies.
  • Experience supporting multi-vendor network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, VPN appliances, and fiber/copper connectivity.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in both remote and on-site environments.
  • Availability for after-hours on-call support and occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, administer, and support secure network infrastructure across multiple facilities and remote locations.
  • Manage and maintain a multi-vendor network environment (SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, Ruckus, Loadbalancer.org).
  • Administer and troubleshoot 100+ VPN endpoints for secure connectivity.
  • Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor network availability and performance to maintain service reliability.
  • Install, rack, cable, configure, and deploy network equipment and VPN appliances.
  • Provide on-site support for air-gapped networks per security requirements.
  • Travel to remote facilities for business needs and after-hours on-call rotations.
  • Support disaster recovery infrastructure and business continuity planning.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, configurations, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with teams, customers, vendors, and stakeholders to implement solutions.

Position Overview

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, administering, and supporting secure network infrastructure across multiple facilities and remote locations. This hands‑on role supports a diverse, multi‑vendor environment and requires strong troubleshooting skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will help maintain network availability, security, performance, and operational resilience in a compliance‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Administration
  • Manage and maintain a multi‑vendor network environment, including SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, Ruckus, and Loadbalancer.org technologies.
  • Administer and troubleshoot 100+ VPN endpoints to ensure secure, reliable connectivity across remote locations.
  • Support customer‑managed networks, including Layer 2 point‑to‑point circuits, routing, switching, and integrated network services.
  • Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and support planned maintenance.
  • Monitor network availability and performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to maintain service reliability.
Hardware Deployment & On‑Site Support
  • Install, rack, cable, configure, and deploy network equipment, VPN appliances, and related infrastructure.
  • Provide on‑site support for air‑gapped networks in compliance with security and operational requirements.
  • Participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation and respond to urgent network or facility needs.
Disaster Recovery & Continuity
  • Support disaster recovery infrastructure through maintenance, testing, validation, and incident response.
  • Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery planning to strengthen resilience and recovery readiness.
  • Travel to remote facilities and recovery sites as business needs require.
Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to network security, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, configurations, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Partner with technical teams, customers, vendors, and business stakeholders to plan and implement network solutions.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience with switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience with load‑balancing technologies.
  • Experience supporting multi‑vendor network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, VPN appliances, and fiber/copper connectivity.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in both remote and on‑site environments.
  • Availability for after‑hours on‑call support and occasional travel.
Preferred
  • Based in or able to commute to the San Diego area.

Salary

Our salary ranges consider a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to benchmarking by independent third‑party consultants, skill sets, years of experience, training, education, geography, and other business needs. Depending on experience, the range can be higher for candidates with exceptional experience and a demonstrated history of successful performance. This position's expected total compensation (base salary) is $96,300.00-$149,100.00
