Job summary

Synopsys seeks a senior computational mechanics software engineer to advance LS-DYNA-style solvers on GPU-accelerated HPC systems. You will push performance, accuracy, and scalability across large Fortran and C/C++ codebases.

You will work hybrid in Livermore, CA with a team of engineers to deliver production-grade solutions for automotive crash and structural dynamics simulations, collaborating with ACE and customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 4-5+ years hands-on experience in computational mechanics software or HPC.
  • Strong proficiency in Fortran, C, and C++ for performance-critical computing.
  • Experience with parallel programming using OpenMP and MPI in production codebases.
  • Solid understanding of finite element or meshfree methods and computational dynamics.
  • Experience with GPU programming using CUDA, OpenACC, or OpenMP Offload is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain LS-DYNA solvers and features (CPG, CPM, SPH, DEM, PBM, EGMM).
  • Contribute to meshfree and finite element methods for accuracy, stability, and efficiency.
  • Port SPH and other features from CPU to GPU using OpenACC, OpenMP Offload, and CUDA.
  • Debug and resolve consistency issues in HYBRID on large-scale models across varying resources.
  • Implement and optimize parallel algorithms using OpenMP and MPI.
  • Profile, benchmark, and tune performance on HPC clusters and GPUs.
  • Collaborate with ACE engineers to translate requirements into production-ready solutions.
