Job summary

Google's BigQuery team is seeking a software engineer to design and land large-scale storage components for OSS and BigQuery, enabling fast data analytics at scale across enterprise customers.

You will design tests, employ a full toolkit to develop and rollout features, and collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customers to shape the architecture and technical direction in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 5 years of experience in the Data Analytics ecosystem (e.g., Iceberg, Spark, Flink, Pandas, Arrow).
• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 10 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement storage components to support large-scale data processing for both open source software (OSS) and BigQuery.
• Design and implement tests and experiments to evaluate and monitor the performance of the system.
• Use the full battery of tools and instrumentation to develop, test, and rollout features.
• Coordinate with product engineers, Product Managers and customers to grow the business.
