Job summary

Modal is seeking engineers to design, build, and maintain the machines layer of our serverless platform. You will automate the integration of new hardware capacity, manage machine images, configure GPUs, RDMA, networking and storage, and ensure fleet health with minimal human intervention.

You will dive into everything between hardware and software, from kernel panics to container runtimes on new architectures, and participate in on-call rotations to respond to production incidents.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience writing high-quality production code.
• Experience operating fleets of physical hardware or building control planes that manage them.
• Strong cloud skills.
• Strong knowledge of Linux kernel, drivers, networking, file systems, containers.
• Effective debugging across layers, from kernel issues to Python control-plane services.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents.
