Job description

GreyOrange is a global leader in AI-driven robotic automation software and hardware, transforming distribution and fulfillment centers worldwide. Our solutions increase productivity, empower growth and scale, mitigate labor challenges, reduce risk and time to market, and create better experiences for customers and employees.

Founded in 2012, GreyOrange is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with offices and partners across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

Our GreyMatter platform orchestrates robots, people, and systems in real time across some of the most complex fulfillment environments in the world. We are now expanding our Foundry platform a simulation and layout design product that enables customers to model, design, and better understand warehouse automation systems before deployment.

Role Overview

Join a high-performing engineering team to build a proprietary High-Fidelity Discrete Event Simulation (DES) platform engineered for dense, multi-agent robotics orchestration. You will architect a highly scalable, extensible simulation engine that acts as an algorithm testbed and performance benchmark. This is an individual contributor (IC) and backend-heavy systems programming role.

About the Job:

The ideal candidate is an AI-native coder with a masterful hold on data structures and complex algorithms, who thrives in 0→1 engineering environments. You will work at the intersection of discrete event simulation (DES), spatial math, graphics compute, and operations research to build a highly optimized, extensible platform that validates multi-million-dollar warehouse automation investments.

This role is ideal for a deeply technical systems engineer who enjoys writing high-performance code to solve complex, real-world multi-agent coordination problems.

What You'll Do
Core Simulation Engine Development
  • Own the core development of Foundry's discrete event simulation (DES) platform.
  • Write highly optimized, deterministic production code primarily in Rust to power the core platform.
  • Optimize the engine to achieve execution speeds, allowing 24-hour warehouse shifts to be simulated in minutes.
Algorithm Sandbox & Extensible Interfaces
  • Architect and implement clean, decoupled backend APIs and plugin interfaces that turn the platform into an algorithm sandbox.
  • Build frameworks that allow development teams to seamlessly plug in, test, and benchmark various algorithms.
Spatial & Graphics Compute Integration
  • Write precise kinematic and physical constraints into the engine, ensuring simulation outcomes reflect real-world operational profiles.
  • Leverage WebGPU or modern graphics APIs to handle headless layout synthesis, accelerate spatial queries, and feed visual data to the frontend.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with a Senior/Staff Product Manager to translate complex operational concepts, layout constraints, and business logic into high-fidelity technical execution.
  • Collaborate within a lean, high-performing engineering team to bridge the gap between simulation code and production firmware logic.
  • Build out telemetry, replay logging, and reporting infrastructure to capture granular metrics.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in backend-heavy, highly technical software environments.
  • Expert-level mastery of Systems Programming, with production-grade experience in Rust being highly desirable.
  • Strong command of advanced Data Structures and complex Algorithms.
  • Deep practical understanding of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) paradigms, real-time systems, or operational modeling environments is a plus.
  • Experience with or a strong desire to learn WebGPU or modern computer graphics programming for spatial calculations and simulation visualizations.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality, clean, and extensible code in an ambiguous, fast-moving 0→1 product environment.
  • Strong technical fluency and excellent collaborative communication skills to interface effectively with product managers and engineering peers.
