Job summary

Fruition Group US is seeking a senior technical leader to own the Mapping & Localization architecture for an autonomous vehicle program in California. You will design centimeter-level fusion systems and oversee edge-case handling in GPS-denied environments.

You will mentor engineers and drive roadmaps, build real-time localization pipelines, and optimize for embedded constraints across LiDAR, radar, camera, IMU, and GNSS data streams.

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Robotics, CS, EE or a related field.
  • 7+ years in robotics, including 4+ years on production localization or mapping systems.
  • Expert modern C++ (14/17/20): memory management, multi-threading, real-time systems.
  • Strong grounding in probabilistic robotics: EKF/UKF, nonlinear optimization (Ceres, g2o, GTSAM) and SLAM.
  • Deep understanding of 3D geometry, linear algebra and coordinate transformations (quaternions, SE(3)).
  • Familiarity with Eigen, Ceres, PCL, OpenCV and GTSAM.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of the localization architecture, including build-vs-buy decisions and long-term technical roadmaps
  • Build real-time sensor fusion, visual/LiDAR odometry and global localization using factor graphs, EKF/UKF and particle filters
  • Develop pipelines to generate, maintain and query large-scale LiDAR-based HD maps
  • Work on priors-based localization and semantic map matching
  • Solve the “stale map” problem with change detection, using fleet data to spot construction zones, lane shifts and new signage and update maps in near real time
  • Optimize for embedded compute constraints (latency, memory, power) without sacrificing safety or accuracy
  • Build self-diagnosis capability for localization
  • Mentor senior and junior engineers through rigorous code review

Job description

I’m working with a fast-growing autonomous vehicle company that’s looking for a senior technical leader to own their Mapping & Localization architecture.

The role

You’ll design high-fidelity fusion algorithms that combine LiDAR, radar, camera, IMU and GNSS with HD maps to reach centimeter-level accuracy. You’ll tackle the hardest edge cases, from GPS-denied tunnels to dynamic construction zones, so vehicles operate safely in complex L4 ODDs.

What you’ll do

What you’ll bring

  • MS or PhD in Robotics, CS, EE or a related field
  • 7+ years in robotics, including 4+ years on production localization or mapping systems
  • Expert modern C++ (14/17/20): memory management, multi-threading, real-time systems
  • Strong grounding in probabilistic robotics: EKF/UKF, nonlinear optimization (Ceres, g2o, GTSAM) and SLAM
  • Deep understanding of 3D geometry, linear algebra and coordinate transformations (quaternions, SE(3))
  • Familiarity with Eigen, Ceres, PCL, OpenCV and GTSAM

Nice to have

  • Shipped localization stacks on deployed autonomous vehicles or mobile robots
  • Hands-on with LOAM, LeGO-LOAM, ORB-SLAM or VINS
  • CUDA/GPU programming or optimization for ARM-based embedded platforms

Work at the frontier of a fast-moving field with real room to grow. Highly competitive salary and benefits package, including 401(k).
