The Staff Satellite Battery Electro-Mechanical Engineer will participate in the development, building, and testing of E-Space satellite battery hardware. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering with at least 5 years of electro-mechanical design including battery pack design and mechanical work.
This position will report to the Electro-Mechanical Engineering Lead and will work closely with the Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, Test, and Manufacturing teams. The successful candidate will be based in our Saratoga, CA office.
Responsibilities
- Own the satellite battery product from clean sheet to flight.
- Execute all aspects of battery pack electro-mech design including battery cell interconnect, packaging, thermal and electrical accommodation, leading design reviews, etc.
- Produce drawings and documents including fabrication packages, interface control documents, assembly procedures, test procedures, certification reports, etc.
- Design for thermal management and support thermal analysis.
- Design for mass manufacturing and assembly of packs.
- Execute UN38.3 certification tests.
- Perform space product qualification, support production acceptance testing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
- 10+ years of experience in electro-mechanical engineering.
- Skilled with CAD tools.
- Expertise with battery cells and interconnect such as laser welding and ultrasonic bonding.
- Expertise with module packaging including integrating PCBs and interconnect into enclosures.
- Experienced with production level DFx and FMEA.
- Experience with mechanical and thermal stress-testing such as vibration, shock, and thermal cycling.
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with UN38.3 testing.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
- Expertise with rigid and flex PCB technologies, packaging, and interconnect.
- Experience performing thermal analysis in Thermal Desktop, IcePak, Comsol, or similar tools.
- Experience producing battery packs in high volumes.
- Expertise with polymerics including epoxies and conformal coatings.
- Experience designing for space environments.
Compensation
- Full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office.
- Target base pay: $120,000 - $200,000 annually.
- Compensation packaged will be determined by factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
