Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer for the Facilities Engineering team in Promontory, Utah. The candidate will design power, controls, and process instrumentation per NEC, including hazardous locations, and provide detailed cost estimates for projects.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting industrial electrical equipment, developing maintenance guidelines, and integrating equipment for robotics, PLCs, servo drives, instrumentation and HVAC.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field with significant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and NFPA 79.
  • Experience with low/medium voltage power distribution systems.
  • Experience with closed-loop servo and process control systems.
  • Willingness to travel to fabrication vendors and Northrop Grumman facilities.

Position

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently recruiting for a Staff Electrical Engineer to join our Facilities Engineering team at the Promontory, Utah location.

Job Description

Candidate will be responsible for the design of power, controls and process instrumentation per the NEC including hazardous classified locations. Provide detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation. Troubleshoot industrial electrical equipment. Develop electrical maintenance guidelines for industrial equipment. Integrate and specify electrical equipment for robotics, PLC’s, servo drives, instrumentation and HVAC equipment.

Job Duties
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team to design, execute, and manage large facilities projects
  • Frequently collaborate with technical leadership on system requirements, design criteria, and project status updates
  • Designing, building, supporting, and continuing the development of automated manufacturing machines and systems
  • Learning the details of currently implemented control system hardware and software for automated machines
  • Provides cost estimates for new equipment and systems
  • Provide project management on facilities projects to ensure successful execution of cost, scope, and schedule
  • Supporting production in using the machines and integrating upgrades as needed
  • Assisting maintenance personnel as needed when troubleshooting the equipment
  • Participating in R&D efforts to improve system capabilities and bring new ideas into projects
  • Overseeing and directing day-to-day efforts of tradesmen during machine build activities
  • Strictly follows and adheres to departmental procedures and protocols
  • Works with vendors and contractors to ensure successful delivery of projects to meet company needs
  • Maintains documentation related to systems design, fabrication and testing
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance and with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to be trained and a willingness to work with others in a team environment
Basic Requirements
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, or related field, plus a minimum of 14 years of experience with BS or MS and 12 years
  • Must have understanding and working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Code and Standards for Industrial Machinery (NFPA 79)
  • Frequently collaborate with technical leadership on system requirements, design criteria, and project status updates
  • Experience designing low and medium voltage power distribution systems
  • Must have experience with closed-loop servo and process control systems
  • Some travel to fabrication vendors and other Northrop Grumman facilities required
  • Experience with design, fabrication and installation of equipment and systems for large structures, rocket composite parts and assemblies preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects and resources

Preferred Requirements
  • AutoCAD design experience
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with electrical requirements for hazardous locations
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC and Ethernet systems
  • Industrial Safety Systems (ANSI B11 and/or IS013849)
  • UL-508 Standards
  • Control System Programming
  • Experience working in an energetics facility
  • Knowledge of current Safety Standards used in automation control and systems design
Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
